Main cutting tools for machining

First, the tool according to the workpiece surface can be divided into five categories:
 

1. Machining various kinds of outer surface of the tool, including turning tools, planer, cutter, the outer surface of the knife and rasp;

2. Hole machining tools, including drill, reamer drilling, boring tool, reamer and the inner surface of the broach;

3. Thread processing tools, including tap, die, automatic opening and closing thread cutting, thread turning tools and thread cutter;

4. Gear processing tools, including hob, shaper cutter, shaving cutter, bevel gear cutting tool;

5. Cut the cutting tool, including insert circular saw blade, band saw, bow saw, cut off the knife and saw blade cutter and so on. In addition, there are combinations of tools.

Second, according to the cutting movement and the corresponding blade shape, the tool can be divided into three categories:
 

1. Common tools such as turning tools, planers, milling cutters (not including forming turning tools, forming planers and forming cutters), boring tools, drills, reaming, reamers and saws;

2. The forming tool has the same or close to the same shape as the section of the workpiece, such as forming turning tool, forming planer, forming cutter, broach, conical reamer and various thread cutting tools;

3. To develop the tool is to use the method of processing gear tooth surface or similar parts, such as hob, shaper cutter, shaving cutter, bevel gear planer and bevel gear cutter and so on.

Third, the tool material can be divided into the following categories: high-speed steel, carbide, cermet, ceramic, polycrystalline cubic boron nitride and polycrystalline diamond.
